How We Test & Rank Products

Our rankings are opinion, but they're informed opinion — here's the method.

For every roundup we start by identifying the leading products in the category from manufacturer specs, verified-purchase reviews, expert coverage, and long-term owner feedback. We compare each contender on the criteria that matter most for that product type: for head shavers that's closeness, scalp comfort and bump risk, waterproofing, grip, and battery; for scalp skincare it's SPF or hydration performance, finish (matte vs greasy), and irritation risk.

What our rankings mean

The #1 pick is the best all-around choice for most people. Other entries win on a specific axis — best budget, best for sensitive skin, best for coarse hair, and so on — which we label clearly. Star ratings reflect our overall assessment on a 5-point scale.

Our promise

We only recommend gear we'd actually buy. Commissions never buy a higher ranking, and we update roundups as products change or better options launch.
